Packaging with postage in mind - part two
Give your packaging a Bon Voyage
When sending out your goods, as with purchasing packaging, there has always a balance between value-added extras and the overall cost.
Having spent a lot of time and effort getting your product and packaging right, the service you send your goods out with can make or break customer expectations.
Postage tips
Using standard post vs signed-for delivery
Depending on the cost of your goods it may seem cost prohibitive to send them out to customers on a signed-for service, rather than standard post. However, the cost may be more than worth it, if the time, cost and admin of resending, plus the disappointment to your customer, outweighs resending the items.
For most high-value goods, sending via a tracked and signed-for service is logical choice to ensure the item doesn’t get lost in the post.
Speed
For other items, which do not have a high replacement cost, standard post may be adequate and if your customers are not in a rush, sending via a slightly slower economy service can significantly save on costs.
International postage
Different countries have different restrictions and services so if you are planning to send your products and packaging out of the UK, research both international postal services and the size requirements of your target destination.
Bon voyage
If you are unsure where to start, try comparing sizing restrictions and costs of the respective mail authorities and carriers for the destination of your package. Royal Mail, DPD, Hermes, UPS.
